Feedburner and WordPress e-mail subscriptions

November 19, 2009

Hey all,

Just a quick note to let you know that I am deactivating Feedburner for new sign ups.

WordPress have recently developed a new HTML based subscripton tool, which I think is far superior, and so I’d love for all new sign-ups to go through this list, as I think that it better showcases my content and allows my subscribers to get more out of my feed. After all, you guys are the fantastic people who read all of my posts (hopefully!!), and so you deserve the best!

To subscribe to my blog, please click on the link in the side bar marked ‘Email Subscription’ and follow the prompts. I believe that you should be able to select the frequency that the email comes out, ranging from instantly to weekly. If you choose daily, my posts will be sent between 6am-8am GMT, and if you choose weekly, they will arrive on Saturday morning, GMT.

A sample of the new WordPress subscriber emails

The RSS feed remains unchanged and is still available for new subscribers.

If you’re currently on the original Feedburner subscription, you will still continue to receive my blog via the usual emails – I am not deactivating the service, just moving folk towards the new system. However, you may wish to consider unsubscribing from the Feedburner emails, and then re-signing up to my blog to get the new HTML based WordPress subscription emails.

Also, people who subscribe – do you have a blog or vlog of your own that I can follow? Do let me know!

If anyone has any queries or issues, do please let me know via comments :D

Thanks a mil guys, Gx

(PS, the only niggle with the new system is that it cannot display the thumbnail of YouTube or Vimeo clips in the email… so you just need to visit my blog (as before) by simply clicking on the title of the emailed post  to see the YouTube or Vimeo clip).

Busiest ever day!

October 12, 2009

Hurrah, yesterday (Sunday 11th October 2009) was my ‘busiest day’ – finally beating the record that I set nearly a year ago on 18th Oct 2008.

Last time around, it was my post on CERN’s Large Hadron Collider that proved the most successful (with over 500 page views on that one page alone), however it is nice to see that my stats were a little more spread out across my blog this time, as I think this shows it wasn’t just a ‘one off’ post that did it.

Some of the most popular posts yesterday were:

Upcoming Film – Fame 2009

Attitude – The Naked Issue

Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride [2005]

Joanna Lumley: Northern Lights

Howl’s Moving Castle [2004]

and “Criminal Justice – BBC Drama“.

As always, thanks a mil for visiting/tracking my blog folks – really appreciate all this traffic to what is essentially a personal blog for me to splurge my thoughts out onto heh!

July 14, 2009

As at 21:40 on Monday 13th July, my blog page has had 100,000 views! Hurrah!

I know that to some people 100,000 views is small-fry, however I must say that I am very pleased that my various ramblings have garnered so many views!

A sincere thank you to all who have visited in the past, those who have left comments and shared their opinion, and those who continue to do so. Special thanks goes to those who subscribe to my RSS feed and continue to trawl through all of my wild and varied ravings heh. Hopefully the content that I blog and share is interesting to the majority of people who visit and that people are enjoying reading these random snapshots and thoughts that litter my life.

Those who know me will know that I am a total stats geek; so here are a few for you!

  • 100,000 views over 521 days works out as an average of 192 views per day (the average is so low mainly due to it taking quite a while for the number of visits to my blog to take off). Currently I receive around twice this number daily, and the total views in the first 5 months of 2009 already has overtaken my total blog views for the whole of 2008.
  • My busiest day was on Saturday, October 18th 2008
  • My most visited blog posts ‘of all time’ are:
  1. Merlin / Robin Hood
  2. Skins Season 2 Finale
  3. The X-Factor doth commeth!
  4. Joanna Lumley: Northern Lights
  5. Hairspray – Timeless To Me
  6. Jeff Wayne’s Musical War Of The Worlds

As you’d expect; my top three posts are largely there due to the totty / image referrals, however the fourth-sixth place posts are all there on their own merit – hurrah! I sometimes post multiple blogs on similar topics (e.g. Spring Awakening) though, on this occasion,  I’ve been lazy and not consolidated the figures on similar posts.

The pictures on the top 3 blog posts also lead the list of ‘links’ that people have clicked through to when browsing my blog.

I garnered the most blog link referrals from a tag that linked to my (pleasingly geeky) post on the Large Hadron Collider that CERN were running on 10th September 2008.

So there we go… some random and pointless statistics about my blog heh!

Here’s to the next 100,000 views… it seems weird that I have to do twice my current (and, to me, mammoth!) total number of views before I can get as excited about all this again heh. I liked getting excited at all of the smaller milestones, so now that those increments have increased, I guess that I will just have to challenge myself to blog even more and, hopefully, find yet more people who want to keep in regular touch with my ravings heh!

Thanks again for reading and participating folks! x

My first forray into ‘vlogging’

May 31, 2009

Well… you know me – I love to do geeky techy things, especially where social media is involved, and this seemed to be the natural step forward (even if people have already been doing it for years!).

I recorded it via my Nokia N95 8GB as my old eye-toy-hacked-into-a-webcam would have given a far poorer resolution. Alas the lighting is slightly off on the clip. You may also be interested to know that it was filmed perched on a loaf of bread (that’s the phone… not me…! :) )

Anyway, if you have any feedback, please do let me know. I may explore this medium further if folk think it adds some merit to things – possibly to enhance the textual content on my theatre/gig reviews (which usually take 1-2 hours to write and ‘media-up’!), and to cover most of my personal updates to the blog – i.e making them a little more human. Also, I rather like vimeo, so wanted to find a way to connect with that platform a lot more too, especially now that wordpress.com support it.

My vimeo account is accessible via http://vimeo.com/darkaeon

Oh…and next time, I promise to do it at a decent hour when I’ve had a shave and done my hair! :P

Recent shennanigans in the realm of DarkAeon

February 27, 2009

Rar,

So I figured that it was about time for another personal update to my blog; I never seem to find time to be able to do these sort of posts any more.

That said, not all that much has happened if I’m honest (well, nothing interesting enough to blog about!).

My employers have decided to shackle me to my email inbox with a new BlackBerry – I have the Curve 8310, and so far, I really like it (the device, not the email and the constant beeping!). I’ve named him Barry as it is easier to exude my wrath onto a personified object as opposed to an objectified person!

blackberry_8310

The spec of the device is rather good, and along with my N95 8GB (personal phone), there is pretty much nothing that I cannot accomplish thanks to the wonderful smartphone technology. Between them, they can do more than my computer can I think!

… now, I just need to find a way to get it to use the dishwasher and I’ll be sorted for life!

I am still loving the musical that I went to see the other week, Spring Awakening. I now have the soundtrack too, which is on a constant loop it seems. There’s nothing better than missing your train and breaking into ‘Totally F**ked’ hehe.

The Saturdays are featuring quite highly on the music that I am listening to at the moment too, as are P!nk, Queen, the Dreamgirls soundtrack, the Pan’s Labyrinth soundtrack, the Across The Universe soundtrack and the ever fabulous Scissor Sisters.

Greg and I have recently started shopping at Waitrose and are very impressed with them as a supermarket. A completely different work ethic seems to be present when compared with their larger competitors, most likely due to the differing business models. We’ve found that Waitrose do price competitively, have pleasant staff and sell excellent quality food (especially fresh fruit and vegetables) – I don’t think that we’ll be returning to Tesco anytime soon to be honest. For those who haven’t tried Waitrose yet (and happen to have one nearby!), I’d heartily recommend them.

I’ve just embarked on the CBA stage of the CIMA exams, and plan to study for my first paper (Business Economics) over the next 8 weeks or so, so that is a bit of an adventure I guess… be intrigued to see how this all pans out, as I’ve wanted to get back into study for quite a while now, and so this is a perfect opportunity to spend several years working towards becoming a Management Accountant and hopefully carve out my career further as time goes on.

A friend of mine, Adam, has suggested the BBC comedy series ‘Beautiful People’ to me… does anybody else have an opinion on the series before I go out and spend £20 on it?

(ooo, I’ve just noticed a strange correlation between the freeze-frame poses of both P!nk and the chap from Beautiful People! Is this the new fashion? Should I arrange myself in a similar picture and send it to Vogue??)

I think that’s it for news really, and most of the above isn’t really all that newsworthy! Should I feel depressed?

Right, that’s decided, I feel depressed and I need, no, I DESERVE(!) chocolate… which I will see to, right after I’ve slapped Barry Beeping BlackBerry back into silent submission! :D

Happy Birthday!

February 8, 2009

Just a small post to reference that it is my blog’s first anniversary today! Hurrah!

I’m very happy with the stats that I’ve been able to generate over this past year, so thanks to all for reading and following! Marvellous work!

Birthday

Also, today marks the day that I am closer to being the age of 24 than I am to the date that I turned 23… yes, it’s that regular despair that I feel when I realise that I now have to start referring to myself as ‘nearly 24′.

Here’s a link to my first post on this blog… it seems strange that a year ago today I was worrying about exactly the same thing! I guess my outlook on life hasn’t changed as much as I thought it had in the last year!

I am really worried that I may end up having some kind of mid-young-adult-life crisis, such as this… or even worse… this! hehe.

24 will also be my last year in that awesome 18 – 24 age bracket on all of the surveys.

Ah well, can’t win them all, eh?!

“Running From Camera”

January 4, 2009

I’ve just been going through some of my bookmarks and came across the one for the “Running From Camera” blog hosted on eBlogger.

http://runningfromcamera.blogspot.com/

Well worth a look if you get a moment…. perhaps not quite as amazingly fab as the different man who dances everywhere (below) but certainly a very nice twist to add to those usually rather sterile photos that people take whilst visiting other places!

Well done that man!!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all my fab readers!

Wishing all the best to all, especially those communities that have been/are celebrating over the previous/coming weeks!

Hurrah! A record day for DarkAeon’s Demented Declamations!

May 5, 2008

WHOOP!

In the last few minutes, my blog’s stats have just informed me that today has seen my blog have the largest number of hits to it since I began, taking the day that I published my “Dawn Goes Lesbian” review/post written on February 22nd down into second place (finally!).

The main reason for today’s unexpected success seems to be due to the lovely people at two of the Gareth Gates fan message boards here and here whom have been checking the blog out (especially the Dancing On Ice page), leaving lovely comments and saying nice things on their forums. Much appreciated guys! (See Greg – I am not the only fan of Mr Gates hehe! x)

As well as that, I have received a great response to many of my other posts [my review of Gone With The Wind is my most popular post on my blog over-all] with many newbies coming in via search engines and whatnot.

For some reason, a lot of ‘weird’ searches will bring you to my blog it seems – here’s an example of just a few of them…

  • fisting
  • +westlife +leathers
  • deminted little girl pictures
  • cottageing in mnachester
  • sucked off
  • declamation funny competition
  • dawn wants to be a lesbian (not just once, but twice!)
  • manchester nude cleaners
  • the test dawn porter did to show if she

…. and so it goes on hehe! It seems that there’s a lot of random (and filthy!) searches that will bring you to my blog – and now I’ll probably get twice as many hits for posting them all in this post hehe! You do not want to see what came up on the stats for most of the Dawn searches – utter filth hehe!! Ahh well, these are nothing compared to some of the ones that I’ve seen on friend’s blogs!! The standard of spelling and grammar utilized by my searchers does seem slightly alarming though.

So, as well as having a decent day on the searches and linked items, I also have my lovely group of subscribers to my blog who get my posts either delivered to them via e-mail, or else have it tagged in an RSS reader. If you fancy doing this, it’s free and easy enough to subscribe to my ravings via the link on the toolbar on the right hand side of this blog. I very much appreciate my subscribers and the time they make to take an interest in what’s going on in my life – lovely bunch of people! :o D

Anyways, enough of my talking about stats – just wanted to share this unexpected piece of news with you all, and to take the opportunity to thank folk for the fantastic number of hits that this blog’s had in the past few months!

As always, thanks for reading xx
